Watch the sunrise over half dome while you exchange vows!

Emma and August knew they wanted their Yosemite elopement to feel truly unforgettable, so they opted for Glacier Point, one of the most iconic locations in the park.

On the morning of their wedding, they woke up early to catch the first light of dawn, exchanging vows while watching the sun rise over the majestic Half Dome.

They then ventured into Yosemite Valley to explore the meadows and take more photos before heading over to Taft Point. At this incredible cliffside location, they watched the sunset together, with the orange and pink hues of the sky casting a beautiful light over the dramatic landscape.

The day was filled with so much love, and they were able to take in the full splendor of Yosemite’s natural beauty, making it a day they would remember forever.

You can get married on a cliff with epic views!

For TJ and Gabby, their Yosemite National Park elopement was all about embracing the awe-inspiring views and adventurous spirit of the park.

They started their day exploring the meadows in Yosemite Valley, enjoying the serene landscape and the expansive views of the granite peaks. The couple soaked in the beauty of the park and shared some quiet moments before embarking on the short hike to Taft Point, one of Yosemite’s most striking viewpoints.

At the summit, perched 3,500 feet above the valley, they exchanged vows with the vast wilderness stretching out before them. They celebrated by popping a bottle of champagne, savoring the crisp air and the incredible feeling of being on top of the world.

As the sun began to set, the two of them ventured out to the edge of the cliff, where we captured stunning wedding portraits with the dramatic backdrop of the valley below.

Seasonality: When to elope in Yosemite

The time of year you choose for your destination elopement will significantly impact your experience in Yosemite National Park. To avoid large crowds, consider planning your elopement in the early morning or on weekdays.

Here's a quick breakdown of the seasons:

• Peak Season (May to October): The park is busiest in these months, especially July and August. Expect warmer, drier weather with more visitors.

• Low Season (November to April): While winter brings snowy landscapes, it can be less crowded. However, the weather can be unpredictable, so be prepared for cold and wet conditions. Spring and Fall offer beautiful, varying weather, but they are also more temperamental.

• Best months: May, September, and October (mild weather with fewer crowds).

It’s important to consider the season when selecting your Yosemite elopement location and make sure you're dressed accordingly for the weather.

Tip: Plan your ceremony for a weekday at sunrise to avoid the crowds!

For couples who prefer a peaceful, less crowded spot, Sentinel Dome is ideal. The 2.2-mile roundtrip hike is an easy trek, and the reward is 360-degree views of Yosemite’s majestic landscape.

Sentinel Dome is particularly stunning at sunrise or sunset, providing a quieter alternative to more popular spots like Glacier Point.

For an easy stroll with rewarding views, the Cooks Meadow Loop is a fantastic option. This short trail gives you access to breathtaking vistas of the valley and the surrounding granite rock walls.

It’s perfect for couples who want to elope without a long hike, and the flat terrain makes it accessible for those looking for a more relaxed ceremony.

If you and your partner enjoy a bit of adventure, Taft Point is a must-visit for your Yosemite elopement. The 2.2-mile hike to this cliffside spot is not overly strenuous, but the views make the journey worthwhile. The dramatic drop-offs and panoramic views of the valley and surrounding peaks create a spectacular setting for your ceremony, especially during sunset.

Don’t forget headlamps and good hiking shoes!

This meadow in Yosemite Valley offers stunning views of the famous El Capitan, as well as nearby waterfalls.

The area is perfect for couples looking for a scenic yet relatively flat location to exchange vows. Surrounded by towering granite cliffs, it’s one of the best spots for Yosemite National Park elopements with a natural, romantic vibe.

Glacier Point provides an amazing vantage point for your elopement, with sweeping views of Half Dome and the surrounding mountains. For the best experience, plan your ceremony during sunrise, when the light bathes the landscape in soft hues. It’s an iconic spot, but it’s also relatively accessible, making it ideal for couples looking to tie the knot in front of a breathtaking backdrop.

Tip: Check for dates that Glacier Point Road is open as this road is closed for the winter.

What to Wear for your Yosemite Elopement

Yosemite's weather can be unpredictable, so it’s essential to choose attire that works for the season and climate you’ll be facing. If you're eloping in the summer, you’ll want something breathable and light, but if you’re planning a winter ceremony or an elopement in the early spring or fall, consider layers that will keep you warm.

Tip: For colder conditions, consider wearing fleece-lined leggings under your wedding dress or adding a warm shawl, cape, or jacket for extra comfort.

• Rainy days: Waterproof shoes or boots and a light, stylish rain jacket can help you stay dry while still looking fabulous.

• Wind: Dresses that have flowing skirts and movement can look stunning as the wind sweeps through the Yosemite Valley. Just make sure you can move freely and easily if the wind is stronger than expected.

If you’re not sure what the weather will do, it’s always a good idea to check forecasts ahead of time, as Yosemite can have rapidly changing conditions—especially in higher elevations.

Your Yosemite elopement will likely include more than just a ceremony. Whether you’re hiking to an iconic spot like Taft Point, backpacking to a secluded location, or planning a more adventurous day that might include rock climbing or river rafting, the key is to wear something that allows for movement and comfort.

• Dress/Suit for Hiking: If you plan on hiking to your ceremony location, consider a lighter, more flexible wedding dress that allows for movement.

• Activity-Ready Wedding Attire: If hiking or climbing will be part of your adventure, some couples opt for functional wedding dresses and/or suits that they can move in. Another option is to pack your outfits in and get ready on site!

• Durability:
Choose fabrics that can handle the rugged terrain of Yosemite, like soft cotton, chiffon, or other lightweight but durable materials. A heavier satin or taffeta might be difficult to manage if you're walking through rough or uneven terrain.

When it comes to choosing the perfect attire for your Yosemite elopement, comfort, practicality, and personal style are key. Yosemite’s diverse landscapes and varying weather conditions mean you need to think carefully about how your outfit will hold up to nature, all while ensuring you feel like the best version of yourself.

01. weather & season: dressing for the elements

02. activity: consider your adventure

Your Yosemite elopement is a beautiful combination of nature and your love story, so choosing wedding attire that complements the natural backdrop will help you create stunning photos that truly capture the beauty of your day.

• Neutral Tones & Earthy Hues: Earth tones and neutral-colored wedding dresses or suits blend perfectly with Yosemite's stunning landscapes. Shades of ivory, cream, or even soft pastels create an elegant contrast against the dramatic granite peaks and deep green forests. If you're planning an adventurous elopement, earth-toned suits or dresses with natural textures like lace or linen will add depth to your photos.

• Textures: A simple background, like a meadow or a rocky cliff, pairs well with textured clothing. Think lace details or flowy fabrics that add a touch of depth and visual interest without overwhelming the beauty of the landscape.

• Movement & Flow:
Dresses that offer a lot of movement are always a good choice in an outdoor setting, especially when the wind catches the fabric, adding an element of drama to your wedding photos. Look for soft materials like tulle or chiffon that create ethereal movement.

03. Aesthetics & visual: harmonizing with the landscape

When you're exploring Yosemite’s incredible scenery, the shoes you choose will make a huge difference. Whether you're walking to your ceremony location or hiking rugged trails, the shoes you wear need to be both comfortable and suitable for the terrain.

• Hiking Boots & Wedding Dresses: If you plan on hiking to your ceremony location, don’t shy away from pairing your wedding dress with hiking boots. They can look surprisingly cute and practical! Ensure they’re well-broken in before your elopement to avoid discomfort.

• Sturdy, Stylish Footwear: For a less rugged wedding, comfortable flats, sandals, or dress shoes with cushioned soles are ideal for flat paths or areas where you’ll be standing during the ceremony. Make sure whatever shoes you choose are appropriate for the activities you’ll be doing.

Tip: If you're planning on changing your footwear after the ceremony, pack a second pair of shoes for your post-ceremony adventure or photoshoot.

04. Shoes: comfort is key

These are the fun wedding-y things that I think add so much to your wedding photos!

• Cathedral-length veil: Veils aren’t for everyone, but they add such a gorgeous element to your photos - especially when being swept in the wind! You can also use them for creative shots if the veil is long enough.

• Bouquets: Remember in Talladega Nights when Ricky Bobby didn’t know what to do with his hands?? Having a bouquet of flowers to hold not only adds a stunning visual element, but it gives you something to work with when you don’t know what to do with your hands!
